Tips, Ties And Tactics Snook: Night Fishing Naples Area
Posted by Gorgefly on Sunday, December 30 @ 04:37:15 PST

I am going to be down in the Naples area (hotel is next to Delnor Wiggins State park) next week and I was curious as to wether there are any good places close by to fish from the beach or to wade? I don't even have a full day off from biz meetings but I would like to know if there is a possibility of beach fishing day and night close by?
The first morning my meetings start after lunch so I was thinking of renting a kayak over on Marco at Isle of Capri marina. Is there a place close by within paddling distance anyone would recommend?

I'm a Wash. St. trout/steelhead fishermen and will be bringing my 8wt. with a multi-tip system...floaters best right?

HELP????....seriously I would appreciate at least any info in helping me narrow down where to take my "stab in the dark".

Anyone need info on the Great Northwest I'd be glad to share if I can help.

Thanks

Matt

It looks like the cold front that is approaching will have the gulf all messed up this week, severely limiting your diy opportunities. There are a few spots that you might want to check out. Georgefly, check your private messages, and give me a call.

hey ... i am going down too .. headrush is obviously your man, as he lives there .. but, have been fishing down there for sometime and i see things like this from a traveling fly fisherman's perspective ..

1. remember that it will be warm down there to you and me .. but "warm" is relative to the fact that pacific northwest and maine are freezing ..

2. jan/feb in florida is infact "cold" for the species down there ..

3. so, find the warmest water you can .. even if you gotta get back in the back country mangroves etc... because though the beach water may feel warm to us .. it's actually cold ... so, in general, i spend more time where the water is warmest because it seems like that what the fish do too .. so, i often find myself during these months less on "the beaches" and more so in the back country/mangrove areas where the water seems to get less filetered by each and every tide and remains relatively warmer ....

bottom line - find the warm water

headrush -- correct me if i am wrong .. these are just my personal observations ...that have "saved the day" when i have found myself in your neck of the woods during winter month cold fronts .. peace.

Gorgefly check out venitian bay at night there are a bunch of lights that you could paddle to if you find access. I don't know of any public access to the bay but there are certainly some snook chillin in the lights at night. Glass monnow patterns work well for me.
