Hi Guys,
Shallow water striped bass angler here.
I like to target bass on the mudflats as they feed on the shrimp and crabs.
The bass will root around like bonefish.
I've do alot of damage with the Merkin style crab.
I'm curious if you have any other patterns you use in the south on bones or permit.

Re: Crab Patterns: Little Crunchy Morsels For Striped Bass by hedrush999 on Sunday, October 28 @ 11:52:29 PDT http://www.fliesandfinssouth.com | I love to throw crab patterns if the conditions are right:
tailing redfish, bonefish in the grass or on a rocky shoreline, permit (just about anytime), etc. My beliefs are in natural colors that closely mimic the actual crab life in the area. I would say that my number one factor in fishing weighted flies in general is the sink rate. For my crab flies, I almost always use EP Fibers for the body, and tie some sparse and some thick, depending on the size eyes I am going to put on it. Rubber legs are a must, and if you pm me, maybe I'll give you some top secret underground keys permit fly leg info...he he. Throw the best fly for your conditions, most importantly put it in the right spot at the right time, and tear it up! |
