Andros South Bonefishing: Grass Roots Fly Fishing
Posted by fliesandfinssouth on Friday, October 26 @ 15:02:01 PDT
South Andros provides an almost endless habitat for bonefish to roam, and Andros South Bonefishing Lodge provides a great starting point for your hunt. The days at Andros South start early and end late, usually at the Slack Tide Bar, which is well stocked. The staff, John, Jeff, T-man, Gloria, and the owner Andrew know how to make the whole Bahamas experience as authentic as one can while staying at a lodge.
THE FISHING:
Andros South is located on the southeast coast of Andros, which is surrounded by deeper water to the east than the miles of endless creeks and flats to the west.
In the warmer months your chances at seeing permit go up, but your chances of seeing mind boggling amounts of bonefish on the shallows to the west go down. Don't get me wrong, there are still plenty of shots, but your concentrations of bonefish will be around deeper water. If you are planning an October trip, try to plan it around the winds, as a strong east wind can really limit the places you can go. I'd say the fish average 2-3 pounds, but shots at larger fish are very common.
THE GUIDES:
The guide staff, Torrie Bevans, Harlon Sands, Ellie, Norman, and the crew do an excellent job of keeping you in the sun and over fish, and can and will pole their asses off for you. All in all this is a great team of hardcore bonefishing guides.
I had a great time recently at Andros South, and want to thank Andrew, John, Jeff, Torrie, Harlon, Norman, Ellie, T-Man, and the whole crew for going out of their ways to accommodate us.
As well I'd like to give props to a few people doing work for Simms while I was there:
