Saltwater Equipment:Suggested Rod Weight And Reel
Posted by melt on Monday, July 16 @ 17:44:32 PDT
I'm new to the area and need some advice with regards to rod weight and reels. I'm use to fishing for steelhead and trout up north and need some southern schooling. I've been thinking a fast 8 wt might cover most of my needs as long as I'm not chasing tarpon.
Can anyone suggest a good saltwater reel and size? Any input would be great as I had to sell everything I owned up north to make the move south.

I prefer a 9 as it is a good all around tool for throwing a bunch of line in any wind condition. Your choice of reel is very important. With the strength of most of the fish around, a good drag is not an option, it is a necessity. The more you spend, the longer it will last, in theory. I have had 6 Tibor reels for years, and have had no major issues with any of them. |
