Tips, Ties And Tactics Masked Men: Protect Yourself From The Florida Sun
Posted by fliesandfinssouth on Sunday, October 29 @ 18:44:51 PST

I've been hearing a lot from people lately that wonder why some of us wear a full face mask when it is 90 degrees most of the year. There are a bunch of reasons why I do it, and I think most who choose to will agree with my reasons.

First and foremost I wear sunblock and reaply it three times in a full day fishing. I do not like to always wear my mask, it does get really hot in the summer. I do find that towards the afternoon hours, the sun can get really intense and the mask acts as shade, and will make you feel cool. If it gets unbareably hot, a quick dunk in the cooler and the wet mask will rejuvinate me. Next, 2 hours in a flats boat at full throttle, can be very windy, putting the mask up blocks the wind from chapping, blowing in your ears, and whatnot. The biggest reason why I choose to wear mine are the bugs. Mosquitos and noceums can and will chew you up, and missing a strip set because you were too busy swatting bugs off of your face is not fun.

makes sense to me ... i have seen the size of the mosquitoes and other bugs when i come down to fish with you in the everglades ... they were almost a little more scary than the alligators ....

dave, actually ... come to think of it .. you came to fish with me in maine during black fly season .. it is VERY common to where similar face and upper body masks during that time of year ... the black flies will litterally attack a person and swarm a person and bite to no end ... sometimes a mask isn't enough and full body armor seems in order ..... i bet you still have scars from the bites ... and dete and all the bug spray just weren't enough ... we went through cans of it .. wish we had those masks on that trip ...
