Posted by Larry on Sunday, October 29 @ 18:00:13 PST

I will be vacationing on Marco Isalnd. I would like to take this opportunity to take beginning fly fishing lessons.

Can anyone recommend a good place on or near Marco Isalnd to take lessons?

Hey Larry,

First thing, welcome to fliesandfinssouth.com. When are you coming down to fish? There are many places and ways to learn to cast a fly rod down here, but we should clear a few things up before you decide which route to take. What is your fly fishing experience level? Are you looking to just improve your casting, or are you looking to hone your skills on some fish? The Everglades Angler (239-262-8228) puts on one of the best fly fishing schools around, but sometimes the best way todo it is to do it. Hire a good guide for 5 days straight, and I guarantee you will turn into a better caster and all around angler.

Well, its easier than golf! I think your best bet would be to spend a day on the trail or the beaches with marshalld. He is an excellent caster, and teaches a lot of private lessons down here in the winters. Send him a private message with your contact info, I'll make sure he gets it. Keep me posted on your arrival, if I have the time, I'll show you a few spots, or let you borrow a rod if you need one.
