Tips, Ties And Tactics Saltwater Flyfishing Dream Vacation: Where Would You Go?
Posted by hedrush999 on Tuesday, October 17 @ 17:22:53 PDT

If time and money were no object, he he, and the only decision to be made was which ocean to fish, where would you go? I'm interested to hear why you would choose your location, as well as if anybody out there has visited someone elses dream spot.

Now as far as my dream spot goes, it isn't some super exotic place half way aroud the world. Lately for me, my enjoyment has been "hunting" fish with my fly rod. Visually locating my fish, and presenting a fly so well that it looks like a delicious meal is what gets me going. So I would have to choose the Bahamas as my dream location for the moment. Not just a single island, but all of them. Private plane, island hopping, thousands of bones...Yeah!

martha's vineyard, massachusetts .. standing on a flat, no boat ... crystal clear water and albies and bonito charging at me in literally just a couple feet of water ... all visual .. gotta make one cast count .... tunoids in shallow water ... that gets me going..... the fastest fish in the ocean ... all muscle ... hook them in shallow water and hang on cuz they are going out .. way out .... .... so for me, that's just kinda what i love these days ..... but that is coming to an end here as the northeast is getting cold .... so i am turnign my attention to warmer waters ... lets go bone fishin dave ...

Sight fishing for tarpon would be my choice. I guess the florida keys is pretty much the go to spot. I have only gotten to do this once and would love to hunt those monsters in skinny water from a flats boat. If only money and time were not an object!!!

The top end of Austrialia at Cape York would be nice.
I think I would like to see a Trevally at the
end of the line.

Although I once visited the Bahamas (New Providence Island) I did not fish there which
was a shame.

No, the ultimate expirience in my mind would be to travel from let's say Maine all the way to Texas and fish every well known location along the way.
A real saltwater flyfishing odyssey.

Time and money no object...definately the Bahamas! Sight fishing..... Hal Lyman put it well in his preface to Fishing the Flats by Mark Sosin and Lefty Kreh..."the world of tidal flats...coral and turtle grass, shifting sands...Tarpon, exploding into the air with gill covers rattling, appears to be the size of a cow. The sizzling run of a bonefish melts line off the reel at an express rate. ...Here the breath of salt air may change the craving for a whiff of hemlock and spruce forever."

I want to spend as much time on the flats as I can. That's why I work.
