Don’t Let The Red Tide Scare You: There Are Plenty Of Fish Around 10-06
Posted by fliesandfinssouth on Saturday, October 14 @ 11:37:56 PDT
The last few weeks have brought the first few weak cold fronts through South Florida. These fronts do not mean much change in conditions, except that the west winds have blown in a bunch of red tide and have been holding it inshore. The beaches north of the Naples pier seem to have plenty of bait and birds, as well as dead rotting fish. The fish kill has seemed to affect the waters from Sanibel to Marco Island, but there has not been much red tide south of Marco Island.
Some tarpon from 20-100 pounds are being caught, and the creek mouths seem to be holding many hungry snook. The redfish have moved in to the passes, and now is a good chance to hook a big one. The stained water means dark flies in the mornings, and with the afternoon low tides light colored poppers are a good idea.
