Tips, Ties And Tactics Orvis Frequent Flyer 6-Weight And Tiborlight Tail Water: Florida Peacock Bass?
Posted by ram2711 on Tuesday, May 09 @ 15:44:53 PDT

I purchased a Orvis Frequent Flyer 6-weight and am thinking of purchasing a Tiborlight Tail Water reel to go with the rod and was wondering if this was a good combo for Florida peacocks and large mouth bass. Thanks

Although you do not need anything super fancy for catching peacock bass in Miami, your rig sounds terrific. Anything made by Ted Juracsik will be bullet proof. Tibor reels are simply the finest fly reels made, although the drag dial on the light series is a little akward. It is a little nub that looks a little too inviting for the line to wrap around. I would recommend a Freestone, it is a little heavier, but who cares.

Thanks for the help. The freestone was my second choice but since I bought the rod for use during lightweight backpacking trips I wanted the lightest Tibor I could get.
